Webtots In The News
Melksham Independent New 12th April 2007 Lorraine Petty from Melksham has designed an educational website for toddlers which is proving to be a huge hit with the younger generation. With over a thousand hits each month, the home built site was set up and is maintained by Lorraine, and features activities and games to encourage young children to learn via the computer. "I'm a single mum, "said Lorraine, "and got a computer for my kids about ten years ago, which lead me into the mult-medai and web design." Lorraine bought some educational games for her children to play, and quickly got hooked on them herself! After finding a suitable course at Trowbridge College, Lorraine enroled and soon started designing and building websites. "I started off with a cartoon animation and then set up a website for toddlers incorporating animation and sound." There is a different theme on the site each week, helping children to learn about different things. There are puzzles and games, and other activities to join in with like drawing and colouring-in. There are prizes up for grabs too." Although the website gets a lot of hits, Lorraine makes little money from the venture, and works on the site in her spare time. She added, "I would like to do it full time if I could . There's so much I could do with it now, and it would be great to put all of my ideas into practice." You can visit the website at www.webtots.co.uk. Lorraine is also appealing to any local businesses who would be interested in sponsoring the site to get in touch.
